The pattern of deprivation by Devon area is not static and changes over time. The following map shows areas which have seen larger relative increases in levels of deprivation as determined by their rank nationally (red and orange shading), areas with larger relative decreases in deprivation (green shading), and areas with only minimal change in position (yellow shading). Increases were seen in areas of North and West Devon and in the Newton Abbot area. Decreases were seen across wide areas of Exeter and East Devon, and in Teignmouth, Dawlish, Braunton and areas between Barnstaple and Bideford.
